Eclipse

I'm installing Eclipse which will hopefully end my search for a good IDE/Text editor on GNOME. Installing the CDT (for C++/C) takes a very long time though.

Hopefully I'll finally be able to port Agronor to SDL now.

Kubuntu

Today I tried switching to Kubuntu. Unfortunately, that's not the easiest task ever. In fact, I got lots of DCOP errors and Kcontrol and Konqueror haned X when staring. I read about the DCOP crap a bit on the Ubuntu forums, but there was no available solution that worked. So now I'm back at good ol' GNOME which is fine too.

Well, since the only reason I even tried Kubuntu was KATE, I guess I could just apt-get it. Strangely, there aren't many dependencies.

The following NEW packages will be installed:
kate kdelibs-bin kdelibs-data kdelibs4 libarts1 libqt3c102-mt

Woo maybe.

Unfortunately there was no built-in terminal with these dependencies. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get used to Gedit better, or try Anjuta :(

ok, I got my new PC quite a long time ago (a week or so), but anyway, some parts of it (some of them are from the older comp):

  • 512 RAM
  • LiteOn CDRW/DVD 52x32x52x

    • hda5 FAT32 (Music) 25 GB
    • hda6 FAT32 (Stuff) 25 GB
    • hda7 ReiserFS (Linux /) 30 GB
    • hda8 swap (Linux swap) 1 GB
    • hda9 ReiserFS (Linux /home) 60 GB
  • One 6,5 GB HDD (stuff I backed up from the other comp) (OLD)

Windows Software

Well, since I was going to install Windows, I made a list of free (as in speech/beer) software that's needed to make it usable. Basically it's a list of things I'm going to install :)

7zip
Ad-Aware
Adobe Reader
AVG
Azureus
FAR Manager
FileZilla
Firefox
GAIM
HydraIRC
LeechGet
OpenOffice.org
Winamp
WinMd5Sum
XnView

Lo and Linux

Well, since my PC is a bit broken, I've been using the not so good (but somehow very popular) OS for quite a long time. It's not such an easy task after living with X for a long time. The CTRL+C - CTRL+V procedure takes up way too much time, once you're used to selecting and middle-clicking.
I've been thinking lots of how I'll setup my new system. I'll still have to dual-boot (since I'm not the only one who will use this PC, kind of), but I guess 10 GB is enough for Windows ;-).

On the Linux part, I'll probably go with Arch again and setup 4 partitions:
75 MB ext2 /boot
19 GB reiserfs /home
10 GB reiserfs /
512 MB swap

And I'll try not to install any GNOME or KDE stuff and just settle with XFCE, which rocks!
